Welcome everyone to my blog and to the TGIFF linking party!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm so happy you stopped by and I hope you're ready to link up and show off your finish this week!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been so excited for my turn to host TGIFF and I've been planning to show off a finish that I have been really excited about.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7PxgHch94bNHT9Ez1OgRr-hnMhRHfRo3b105cm5Ci2jZNDWs7STs36jvpgabxK0MxitO8lWp7cq2KPM8vr6vakHKKZBuY933p9eBCMlGo1QOVla8TmS0-BKwkDMkSICa9O2z5IXGmlvAA/s1600/IMG_20120607_152249.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7PxgHch94bNHT9Ez1OgRr-hnMhRHfRo3b105cm5Ci2jZNDWs7STs36jvpgabxK0MxitO8lWp7cq2KPM8vr6vakHKKZBuY933p9eBCMlGo1QOVla8TmS0-BKwkDMkSICa9O2z5IXGmlvAA/s640/IMG_20120607_152249.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
But alas, things don't always work out the way that we planned. While I was working on the last sections of quilting on this <a href="http://brasierhouse.blogspot.com/2012/03/works-in-progress.html" target="_blank">quilt</a>, my sewing machine freaked out, and the tension just went crazy. I spent about 45 minutes trying to fix it, but I couldn't do anything to make it right again. There's something wrong with the bottom tension I think. *sigh* It looks like I'm going to have to take it in to the shop. Again. Grrr.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
So instead, I have a smaller finish to show you. A bonnet.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV5HzPZQf6SkWzRW8d8YNn8JGlf6R10iKwpTJqQPhOi__rymlBBVzuP8PzhkTYEGKLfiB7h_p9o8eueT-4IBu1CfLXNolAlOtpx5KazcEWVzIA7ptz4y4ZbSNSu6c2UCSfrQ7-3J2PmSTl/s1600/1-DSC03925.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="548" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhV5HzPZQf6SkWzRW8d8YNn8JGlf6R10iKwpTJqQPhOi__rymlBBVzuP8PzhkTYEGKLfiB7h_p9o8eueT-4IBu1CfLXNolAlOtpx5KazcEWVzIA7ptz4y4ZbSNSu6c2UCSfrQ7-3J2PmSTl/s640/1-DSC03925.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<i>A bonnet?? </i> Yes. A bonnet. My sewing plans for this summer have taken a 180 degree turn. A bonnet is for sure something that is not usually on my list of 'I want to sew.' <br />
<br />
We found out recently that our family is going on a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trek" target="_blank">Mormon Trek</a> this summer, to honor the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_pioneers" target="_blank">pioneer heritage</a> of our <a href="http://www.lds.org/?lang=eng" target="_blank">church</a>. The requirements of the Trek are that each participant dress in clothing of the period. Men and boys wear non-denim type slacks, long-sleeved button-up shirts and suspenders, with some sort of wide-brimmed hat. All the women and girls have to wear dresses or long skirts and shirts, bonnets, and aprons. <br />
<br />
I'll talk more about our Trek next week, with more details about what it's all about.<br />
<br />
It's easy enough to get the boys ready, just finding shirts (and altering them slightly) and pants and hats. It's not as easy to get the girls ready, as long dresses and skirts and bonnets aren't very easy to find. So, I decided to make my girls and myself our outfits. That means a lot of sewing!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9-20RN9vLMVyL9gavXGC7A-xcxq7ydbMz18j_4YimKmp2h4BsNHt9qCu-B5W1wGWkKxKnmT5x-RfgqSn6TF3FllGibRStVqCVYWoT71kqiVqgAB9kGMKAaPHq1a6EJ7kWrNJ6Yt3bDwzl/s1600/1-DSC03926.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="408" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9-20RN9vLMVyL9gavXGC7A-xcxq7ydbMz18j_4YimKmp2h4BsNHt9qCu-B5W1wGWkKxKnmT5x-RfgqSn6TF3FllGibRStVqCVYWoT71kqiVqgAB9kGMKAaPHq1a6EJ7kWrNJ6Yt3bDwzl/s640/1-DSC03926.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This is my first project of many this summer that will have to do with our Trek. It looks like my normal sewing projects will have to be put on hold until we go, which is at the end of July. I have six weeks to sew bonnets, dresses, and aprons for five girls. And we all need two changes of clothes for our three day adventure!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDn3RxTPQJPxYZcDkEpgU5yGtSlaPX-DsskS1vYIHq-odSzCyDyEiLLJpc876eR5m2xCSZ4upvDGWyrIPttSBZUJ0KYxJlojCnezsQQ5DqzZyTo7k6F4xXCG2wxcEL9lzD23xwXrVoukdi/s1600/1-DSC03933.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="494" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDn3RxTPQJPxYZcDkEpgU5yGtSlaPX-DsskS1vYIHq-odSzCyDyEiLLJpc876eR5m2xCSZ4upvDGWyrIPttSBZUJ0KYxJlojCnezsQQ5DqzZyTo7k6F4xXCG2wxcEL9lzD23xwXrVoukdi/s640/1-DSC03933.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
She is going to look so adorable in her little pioneer clothes. How I'll look is a whole different story. :) </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAhoZmLHE1A_3R0AZ9thn1KdThAt0rxfo6gy7U2EFPThuyGGUHjst5lUUwbLeF9eo8MdzVt5FWFWQqNHHG1Xh6w-aAj-Kjnyh1G_tLQh8RDE8mHRWFkYdy2hCpaMaxFDdWXyUS1TQoi1Pk/s1600/1-DSC03939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="530" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAhoZmLHE1A_3R0AZ9thn1KdThAt0rxfo6gy7U2EFPThuyGGUHjst5lUUwbLeF9eo8MdzVt5FWFWQqNHHG1Xh6w-aAj-Kjnyh1G_tLQh8RDE8mHRWFkYdy2hCpaMaxFDdWXyUS1TQoi1Pk/s640/1-DSC03939.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, not the most glamorous finish out there today, but I'm just keeping it real, ladies (and gentlemen!). This is what my life's going to be like for the next month and a half. I just hope my sewing machine will cooperate!</div>

I'm just not quick enough!<br />
<br />
Until now!<br />
<br />
I joined the Running With Scissors Quilting Bee yesterday...I'm so excited! It's a new quilting bee that's just starting up.<br />
<br />
If anyone is interested in getting involved in an online quilting bee, there are still a few spots left:<br />
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1940652@N25/">http://www.flickr.com/groups/1940652@N25/</a><br />
<br />
Here is a running list of Quilting Bees on Flickr, and there is also a thread that posts up new bees and opened spots in existing bees:<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My weekend's been pretty quiet with three of my kids out of town visiting family. So since I only had my two youngest at home, I decided to go ahead and do the one thing I've been dreading doing for months now. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i><br /></i></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;"><i>Potty Training</i></span>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Ugh.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGQ5dzzzARFWeZYZ-Sg6UJRT3USZ4JfPt3hpocs59yFICrR-LEq7eJ34THLlYLuf5TD0VgfUlKk0ZclONg1CgelbA_VcsFE9Tg2Pl0YRW54asiMXsojtj6v2ake1OZdZhO8NGEs2eIkKQ3/s1600/1-PICT0060.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGQ5dzzzARFWeZYZ-Sg6UJRT3USZ4JfPt3hpocs59yFICrR-LEq7eJ34THLlYLuf5TD0VgfUlKk0ZclONg1CgelbA_VcsFE9Tg2Pl0YRW54asiMXsojtj6v2ake1OZdZhO8NGEs2eIkKQ3/s640/1-PICT0060.JPG" width="404" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He's my last one. But I just haven't been able to bear the thought of doing it for the sixth time--even if it's the last time I ever have to do it.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrFlfZ_KJ1Vv3c_9z5j1xbN6KQs27W8qnV_yi-o-qzCzBjBbNHBd9BgGtqdxSvq8-NrNJnS-YlfUV5yS4NrtuMXuWSnLSYLNlMBU2uXgVy1NmnVZx2eq-DkQeM2WdDQ8lV5hxspA2HO4AW/s1600/1-PICT0063.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="336" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrFlfZ_KJ1Vv3c_9z5j1xbN6KQs27W8qnV_yi-o-qzCzBjBbNHBd9BgGtqdxSvq8-NrNJnS-YlfUV5yS4NrtuMXuWSnLSYLNlMBU2uXgVy1NmnVZx2eq-DkQeM2WdDQ8lV5hxspA2HO4AW/s640/1-PICT0063.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Just look at that little guy. He is always happy! He was our surprise baby. Our blessed baby. He brings joy to our family that we didn't know we were missing. They all do, but there's something about the baby. Sweetness that just never stops. He'll always be my baby. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh1VO02EX8kqOAQIqmgIv-Lfi1Exq25l17Gqw5-MDflBTRdHrjoiZWGE6x2wt1m2Ix-vODeGfYCOOHKED9jmWMKDsibVmZwozBYes5k2GtBYrwDbNbBC9bhhCxEI1eq4ov3ut4FGZ_qDCM/s1600/1-IMG_20120419_111602.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="288" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjh1VO02EX8kqOAQIqmgIv-Lfi1Exq25l17Gqw5-MDflBTRdHrjoiZWGE6x2wt1m2Ix-vODeGfYCOOHKED9jmWMKDsibVmZwozBYes5k2GtBYrwDbNbBC9bhhCxEI1eq4ov3ut4FGZ_qDCM/s640/1-IMG_20120419_111602.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But it's time to get my baby out of diapers. He's two months shy of 3 years old.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So I brushed up on my favorite <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Pottywise-Toddlers-Developmental-Readiness-Approach/dp/1932740147" target="_blank">potty training book</a>, and plunged in on Friday.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbI2X5C_iaAufLhszKFuG9NlxDyq1_X7aDCUMonGl2Cffz-UWUoMX6dU8P63Rmotg3Tupmn1Aa7yasHdQsKBfzIiqIv6OA4U99SNVr1jAVylelumrLrziOtjRpUcxjjWY4AdDTBmuRIq61/s1600/1-DSC03281.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbI2X5C_iaAufLhszKFuG9NlxDyq1_X7aDCUMonGl2Cffz-UWUoMX6dU8P63Rmotg3Tupmn1Aa7yasHdQsKBfzIiqIv6OA4U99SNVr1jAVylelumrLrziOtjRpUcxjjWY4AdDTBmuRIq61/s640/1-DSC03281.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I told him no more diapers for him anymore.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The first day went really well. We had one accident, but by the afternoon, he was telling me he had to go to the potty.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The next day, he did even better. He even pooped in the potty!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Today, the third day, we've had no accidents, and he's going into the bathroom on his own to go potty.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I think we did it!!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's just a matter of pushing through! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Knowing you don't want to do it, but sucking it up doing it anyway. I really should apply this principle to more aspects of my life!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
And just a note: </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
For anyone that's preparing to potty train: <a href="http://www.parentwisesolutions.com/pottywise-for-toddlers/" target="_blank">this is an amazing method for potty training</a>. I used this method with my last three kids, and they were all potty trained this fast. You need to take a few days and set everything aside...other kids to G-ma's, no errands, just staying home and potty training. I tell you, it works!!</div>

<br />
My summer so far?...Well, it's not quite turning out the way that I had so happily planned it a few weeks ago.<br />
<br />
I had planned on getting a TON of sewing done. After all, we'd all be home...my two youngest would be a little more occupied with the older kids home each day, and I'd take advantage of that fact for a couple of hours each day to get some sewing in.<br />
<br />
I don't know what I was thinking!!! I was kidding myself, that's for sure.<br />
<br />
School has been out for two weeks and I haven't even hardly looked into my sewing room. Or gotten anything else done, for that matter. I did spend some time down there last week, hurriedly cutting my fabric for a <a href="http://www.flickr.com/groups/1999164@N22/" target="_blank">swap</a> I'm in. That got sent two days later than the deadline, I'm ashamed to admit. I didn't even get any laundry done the first week of summer break.<br />
<br />
For those of you that have been following my blog for a while, or if you've looked at my About page, you know that I have six children. My oldest is away at college, so I have 5 at home now. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrrLFMl-ujJ4LaeWCsMMH8CSdSiPIKFTTpv19BTnEnqeYaLzwFacobRhZ9fsDjbyKhyphenhyphenbTt7Ax1GqXb2dcDNTUag7JELAMYJr_pQEV0MTMoXxOmWdXPliqmbHCP8GB0np1QIxSEGYUikbfl/s1600/1-PICT0039.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="488" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrrLFMl-ujJ4LaeWCsMMH8CSdSiPIKFTTpv19BTnEnqeYaLzwFacobRhZ9fsDjbyKhyphenhyphenbTt7Ax1GqXb2dcDNTUag7JELAMYJr_pQEV0MTMoXxOmWdXPliqmbHCP8GB0np1QIxSEGYUikbfl/s640/1-PICT0039.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My kids at home are aged 15, 13, 7, 5, and 2 1/2. That age range makes it very hard to keep everyone entertained and happy all at the same time and with the same activities. And very hard for everyone to look normal in a photo!<br />
<br />
I do need to stop for a minute and let everyone know that I love being a mom, and I adore my kids! I'm blessed in many ways in my life. And I love having the privilege of staying home with them. But, having such a large family does have its challenges...one being that I don't get to spend the amount of time that I'd like to on activities of my choice. Like sewing. And blogging. And showering, for that matter. (yes, there are days that I don't get a shower in...I've admitted it. Don't judge me. *sigh*) <br />
<br />
Anyway...I had big plans this summer...like getting going on my <a href="http://brasierhouse.blogspot.com/2012/01/ruby-beauty.html" target="_blank">Swoon</a> quilt (which I've planned a monstrous 4X4 setting for our king-sized bed, and I've only finished 1 block of), and making a Granny Square quilt for my 5-year old daughter, and making a pink and orange string quilt for my 15-year old daughter. And quilting up my <a href="http://brasierhouse.blogspot.com/2012/04/dry-spell.html" target="_blank">four quilt tops</a> that have been sitting around for longer than I'm willing to admit, and a dozen other projects that I've had swimming around in my head. <br />
<br />
Most of those plans aren't going to happen this summer. Between my older girls wanting to go go go and spend time with their friends, and my three little ones wanting to have play dates and obviously needing my attention, and some of the home projects that I have planned (like the garden I haven't planted yet), I'm not going to have time for most of my grand plans to happen this summer.<br />
<br />
But, that's okay...I've learned this year with my oldest leaving for college, that time goes by quickly, and before you know it, little ones are all grown up and going away.<br />
<br />
Hopefully as we settle in to our summer routine I'll at least be able to find a few minutes here and there to sew. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3OSTuWxPcZsgYsYj_WKYV0V7Xgwdyah6oG4JjpZygX4KiT_VqSkLUccpcBmuH490oLHt4YR25ztzT_x5T0M_BATUkG2JFBITTdCn7x09nOVGzFjUnILvsQDharSp9PCrdCTJbwvfm_iPe/s1600/IMG_20120607_152249.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3OSTuWxPcZsgYsYj_WKYV0V7Xgwdyah6oG4JjpZygX4KiT_VqSkLUccpcBmuH490oLHt4YR25ztzT_x5T0M_BATUkG2JFBITTdCn7x09nOVGzFjUnILvsQDharSp9PCrdCTJbwvfm_iPe/s640/IMG_20120607_152249.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My 3 older kids are away for a few days visiting family, so I thought I'd take a few minutes and get started on <a href="http://brasierhouse.blogspot.com/2012/03/works-in-progress.html" target="_blank">this</a> quilt. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAMDk9ffKV27p8BoTsVgPB69v8xvVOP31PaglcTDBn4wpQuwnibOptfNBHb_tvkVksGI1sMh0DzNACeDwwxQ07y4fUGq8JNDhVgfVExmXyHW3cXGHMQfDbVOkDgyQbjJDcKbFdRuTWUsY/s1600/IMG_20120607_161048.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghAMDk9ffKV27p8BoTsVgPB69v8xvVOP31PaglcTDBn4wpQuwnibOptfNBHb_tvkVksGI1sMh0DzNACeDwwxQ07y4fUGq8JNDhVgfVExmXyHW3cXGHMQfDbVOkDgyQbjJDcKbFdRuTWUsY/s640/IMG_20120607_161048.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Sorry for the bad pics, they were taken on my phone, whose lens has been clouded up by sticky little hands.<br />
<br />
I thought that some large pebbling would look good on this quilt. I thought that mimicking the pebble-y fabric and the circle fabric above would be fun. I almost stopped after I quilted the orange center section and picked it all out to do something different, but then I laid it out on the floor and took a step back to look at it, and decided I liked it. <br />
<br />
Sometimes being right up in your work isn't the best way to judge if you're going to like it or not, you know? It's better to take a step or two back and evaluate from a distance, or even walk away from it for a few minutes and then come back for a second look. <br />
<br />
I have a long way to go on this little quilt, but I'm making some progress, at least. Hopefully I'll be able to call it a finish by this Friday, June 15th.<br />
<br />
Because I'm hosting <a href="http://tgiffriday.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">TGIFF!</a>, and I need to have a finish to post for it. If not, I'll find something small to finish and show that.<br />
<br />
So, how is your summer going? The way you planned and envisioned? Or not?<br />

and some little extras that I sent along with it. A little cathedral window pincushion, some fat quarters of Birch Fabrics Mod Basics, notecards, and some goodies from my neck of the woods. </div>
<center><br /></center><center>About the goodies I sent:</center><center><ul>
<li>The <a href="http://www.candycrate.com/potato-candy.html?ad=13177649346" target="_blank">Idaho Spud</a>, which is actually a candy bar made with milk chocolate marshmallow in the middle, and covered with dark chocolate and rolled in coconut. They're local and pretty popular here. Some people like them, some don't. I'm not a fan of marshmallow or coconut, so they're not my favorite. My mother-in-law actually buys gift boxes of them and sends them to family members who aren't local for Christmas. I thought my partner might like to try one!</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Huckleberry pretzels, and huckleberry chocolates. If you've never tried huckleberries, you are missing out! They're kind of like a blueberry, but smaller and much more delicious. They grow in the mountains above 5000 feet in several western states. </li>
</ul>
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj5JdsW3nCOymVoDlOewjgFRYhqw9qTRT954rnKA37IJ9S5SoUoV6fzTNIPRPHwQ7UpIejnbvjlxVd3vo7e2pdwdTnqnF5aMSo2evhWTP0SV_rjohcpaCh04oI2BV3fPfKnv_YfSYyTSZs/s400/Huckleberries+012.JPG" /></center><center><br />My sister-in-law has a secret spot up in the mountains that we go pick every year around the end of August. We drive four-wheelers in and everyone picks all day. We bring them home, wash them up, and put them in freezer bags and <strike>hoard them in the freezer</strike> carefully use them all year so they'll last until we go pick again. </center><center><br /></center><center><img height="285" src="https://encrypted-tbn2.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSQLrZlsYe5F8OpAR_x7K3rSLdjVC3_HIdNcwoe8eofBLU7TzxvvA" width="400" />
</center><center><br /></center><center>We're careful with them because sometimes they do well, and sometimes they don't, depending on the weather that year. They're especially delicious in apple pie, in cheesecake, muffins, and milkshakes. If you've been reading my blog for awhile, perhaps you know that I've been participating in the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge that <a href="http://confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sarah</a> has organized.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<center style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.confessionsofafabricaddict.blogspot.com/search/label/Hands2Help"><img border="0" height="180" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7197/6909562317_be9a179ddb.jpg" width="200" /></a></center><center style="text-align: left;"><br /></center><br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are people in need throughout the world. The quilts that she receives in behalf of this challenge will be donated to one of two charities:</div>
<br />
<ul>
<li style="text-align: left;">Children in New Orleans that have been affected by Hurricane Katrina, and</li>
<li style="text-align: left;">Patients that have been affected by cancer and chemotherapy.</li>
</ul>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Both are very worthy charities. These are great causes to donate time, talents, and quilts to.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When saw back in March that Sarah was holding sign-ups for this challenge, I quickly and eagerly signed up. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I knew, almost immediately, that I was going to make an I-Spy quilt for a child for one of these amazing charities.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I started thinking right away about what setting or design I was going to create for this quilt, but I couldn't decide on anything. Nothing seemed right. Nothing felt good. I put it on the back burner as I continued to ponder how I was going to make this quilt.</div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
</div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
A few weeks later I was shopping when inspiration finally struck, and I got right to work buying materials and starting my blocks. The funny thing is, the quilt that I finally knew I was going to make was not the I-Spy quilt that I had planned on. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In fact, its nothing like I had originally planned.</div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEwz-MYW1fT0AhExXGQvVx0wQ3s_CW4VkfDwPYw-pKruyJkjmBuAjODaJXNNa9SyvsZEOF8UVS3_gUYrlxmsf9QiirEiYjJ0pCFjWSlpzBCZB7UNR8lpr-f9MCA2a4ug_hHxEH82kvGrfc/s1600/PICT0001+(2).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEwz-MYW1fT0AhExXGQvVx0wQ3s_CW4VkfDwPYw-pKruyJkjmBuAjODaJXNNa9SyvsZEOF8UVS3_gUYrlxmsf9QiirEiYjJ0pCFjWSlpzBCZB7UNR8lpr-f9MCA2a4ug_hHxEH82kvGrfc/s640/PICT0001+(2).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I didn't think much of it and continued working on my quilt--so excited that I'd finally decided on something and it was underway. The deadline of May 27th was getting closer and I wanted to be done in plenty of time!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As I was getting my blocks finished up and started sewing them together last week, I learned some devastating news about a very dear friend of mine. News that just breaks my heart for her and her family. I brought her dinner because that's what we do around here, but felt like I just needed to do more for her, but not knowing what I can do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As I continued to work on this quilt, a thought kept creeping into my head. I would brush it aside each time, but it continued to invade my thoughts and wouldn't go away! And suddenly, I knew what I needed to do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I realized then, without a doubt, that I have not been making this quilt for the charity that I had planned on. <br />
<br />
I've been making this quilt for my friend and neighbor who needs the warmth and comfort of a quilt through this trial in her life. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5GdXAKXKgYAxAslu3EyUyJFVug3SA0tlG1tp1TEtXA0sXpXf4XDjxk5LkPqXvVozTDpUK527izVm-Dx2vWqnzHe2feEdAOp4QZm1pVJ_wcqeVD8EoRYZLCbIzZvCyty42577pdcxA_P1n/s1600/DSC03841.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5GdXAKXKgYAxAslu3EyUyJFVug3SA0tlG1tp1TEtXA0sXpXf4XDjxk5LkPqXvVozTDpUK527izVm-Dx2vWqnzHe2feEdAOp4QZm1pVJ_wcqeVD8EoRYZLCbIzZvCyty42577pdcxA_P1n/s640/DSC03841.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I realized that was the reason that I just couldn't figure out a way to make that I-Spy quilt that I'd been so excited about. If I had been making that I-Spy quilt, I wouldn't have had a quilt ready to give to my friend right now when she needs it most. <br />
<br />
There are lots of people in need, feeling discouragement, loss or pain throughout the world, but the most important good I can do right now is right here in my own neighborhood. <br />
<br /></div>
<div>

<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And this quilt is perfect for her.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I felt sick though, because I knew that if I did what I knew I was supposed to do with this quilt, I wouldn't have a quilt to send for Sarah's Quilt Challenge, like I committed to doing.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I finally emailed Sarah and explained my predicament. She was so gracious and sweet and told me that she completely understood the situation and invited me to link up to her final Charity Quilt Challenge post anyway, because she understood that this quilt is going to a good cause.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I just appreciate her so much for being so understanding why I won't be sending a quilt her way for the Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge this year. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She made me feel like a quilt for good is a quilt for good, no matter where in the world it is given.</div>

I for one had a great week visiting everyone and finding some new amazing blogs.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
I want everyone to know that I appreciate all who stopped by, and let you know that each comment was read and appreciated, although I wasn't able to respond to them...it would have taken me all week!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And thank you to all my followers, old and new! I really, really appreciate each of you and continue to look forward to getting to know more and more of you as you comment and participate in other giveaways and fun stuff here in the future!</div>

For those of you who are here for the first time, welcome!<br />
<br />
I'm diane, and I appreciate each of you stopping by. I hope you'll take a moment to look around!<br />
<br />
I have been so looking forward to this fun linky party. I love looking through all the blogs that link up and finding new inspiration and friendships. And of course, entering all the giveaways! <br />
<br />
I wanted to offer something really special for this big giveaway. Being a fabric addict myself, of course it was going to be fabric. I finally decided to choose something that maybe some of you haven't have a chance to get your hands on, or maybe want some more of!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

If some of you don't recognize these beauties, they are part of the <a href="http://freespiritfabric.com/core-pages/gallery.php?gal_id=386" target="_blank">Heirloom</a> collection by Joel Dewberry for Free Spirit Fabrics. This is the Citrine colorway. I LOVE these fabrics! They are so beautiful. Even more so in person. There are nine fat quarters here.<br />
<br />
I never did get my hands on this fabric when it was released last year.<br />
<br />
I luckily found a lovely online shop that has this beautiful fabric in stock! <a href="http://www.lilybellafabrics.com/" target="_blank"> Lilly Bella Fabrics</a> has lots of Joel Dewberry goodness among many others! I was so happy with the service that Christy provided, and I got my shipment in TWO days. Wow! Go see her <a href="http://www.lilybellafabrics.com/" target="_blank">here</a>.<br />
<br />
Anyway, to enter for a chance to win these babies, just leave me a comment and tell me which past fabric line you didn't grab up but wish you would have. That's all you have to do--you don't have to be a follower to enter. Although, if you like my blog, I would love it if you decided to follow me!<br />
<br />
This giveaway will close on the evening of May 25th, and I'll announce the random winner on Saturday morning. Good luck!<br />
<br />
I'll give you one last peek at these beauties:<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am terrible about naming quilts! Sometimes I think that I would be better naming quilts just from their pattern. This one I'd feel more comfortable naming 'Yellow Grid Pattern,' or 'Yellow Squares,' but that doesn't sound very pretty or interesting!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
A lot of the flowers in the yellow fabrics remind me of sunny yellow marigolds, and the grey setting like a garden trellis, so I thought that 'Marigold Trellis' would be an interesting name (or not so interesting--after all, it's me naming it!)</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, I do LOVE this quilt, no matter the name!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This quilt was made for a very special purpose...one that I didn't even know about until yesterday!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
When I get it totally finished, I'll post pictures and tell the story.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The fabrics for this quilt are a combination of fabrics from my stash and some from Joann's. I found a couple of charm packs of the florals on clearance over there and I just fell in love with them.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I've been wanting to make a yellow and grey quilt forever, so I knew exactly what I was going to do with them when I found them. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I actually had to square up the charm squares though...can you believe it?? </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Aren't those floral squares pretty? I do love these fabrics together.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's fun to talk about my husband's opinions of my quilts, because they're so different from mine...ALWAYS. He said that he could appreciate the 'squareness' of this quilt, but thought the fabrics were 'putrid.'</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Hopefully he's the only one who thinks that!! My three older daughters like it, so at least I'm not the only one that does!</div>

</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
I hope that everyone had a great weekend and a great Mother's Day.<br />
<br />
My Mother's Day weekend was really special...I got a special surprise at about 2:00 AM Friday morning.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img src="http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/59584_118509898204299_100001358678566_112472_5075821_n.jpg" />
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My daughter Rachel, who is away at college! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She's decided to stay there throughout the summer and work, and assured me that she couldn't get work off to come home. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Turns out she and my husband have been conspiring for the last month to surprise me! Well, it worked, because I had no idea whatsoever! It was fabulous! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It meant a lot to me to have our family together for Mother's Day. I am so thankful to my husband Doug who worked hard to get her home.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, on the winners of the Shade Blender Rolie Polies. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I asked Rachel this morning to choose a number between 1 and 32, and then another one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So my Rachel-Randomizer chose:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Number 1 and Number 17, which are:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: large;">Robin</span>, who said, "<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Philosopher; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;">My favorite item would be the Reunion fat quarter bundle! Thanks for the chance!" She won the dark Rolie Polie!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Philosopher; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Philosopher; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Philosopher; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;">and <span style="font-size: large;">Lori</span>, who said, "</span><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Philosopher; line-height: 20px; text-align: justify;">I love the California Girl line by Moda. It's such sweet fabric for a little one! I'm making a baby quilt for a friend in that line right now and I love it!"</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Philosopher;"><span style="line-height: 20px;">She wins the light Rolie Polie!</span></span></div>

<br />
As I've mentioned before, my husband has been in school for the last couple of years. He had a big test this weekend and had to stay late on Friday night to study for it. He sent me this picture while he was there:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0-Tx52eSeAOMU-mihFoNXSO93urmiK9jCpL5qtagIfc7AxX90TWGGmYzVO5zP3JBVxuKEMGJJBq5mvD3sorLI9IVHzBTZUXTrQfwKFr38OQBVSyVeM7X85c5ptADpJzI4N6Y92RR2Oydv/s1600/IMAG0691.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0-Tx52eSeAOMU-mihFoNXSO93urmiK9jCpL5qtagIfc7AxX90TWGGmYzVO5zP3JBVxuKEMGJJBq5mvD3sorLI9IVHzBTZUXTrQfwKFr38OQBVSyVeM7X85c5ptADpJzI4N6Y92RR2Oydv/s640/IMAG0691.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the Rexburg, Idaho LDS temple which is close to the BYU-Idaho campus. It is so beautiful. I love the purple sky and the way the lights reflect on the temple against that backdrop. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Not a bad picture from a camera on a phone!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
He made up for leaving me home by myself {well, I'm never by myself} on Friday by taking me out on Saturday. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We went to The Avengers!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Great movie! I have to say that I really loved it!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway...on to the Giveaway...</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This giveaway is so generously sponsored by <a href="http://fabricseeds.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Sarah</a> at <a href="http://stores.fabricseeds.com/StoreFront.bok" target="_blank">Fabric Seeds</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love Sarah and I love her shop!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found Sarah's online store a few weeks ago when I was looking for a bundle of Domestic Bliss.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had a pretty set budget of what I could spend, so I thought I'd look around a little bit online to see where I could find the best price.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I found THE very best price on the internet at Sarah's shop, <a href="http://stores.fabricseeds.com/StoreFront.bok" target="_blank">Fabric Seeds</a>. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And it wasn't just a few dollars less than everywhere else, it was A LOT less than everyone else! I was very impressed with not only that, but with her quick shipping and very sweet service.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I got an email back from her within an hour and SHE HAD ALREADY SHIPPED MY PACKAGE! I ordered on Friday and my package arrived on Monday. I hate waiting for my packages and I was so happy that I didn't have to wait long!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
In her shop you can find precuts, yardage, patterns, books, notions, and even single fat quarters, which are hard to find online.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
She's got some great search options...my favorite being the fact that you can search for fabrics by the time of year that you're looking for...Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter...even Halloween and Christmas.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><img alt="Delighted! Fat Quarter Bundle" src="http://stores.fabricseeds.com/media/04/a647391132bb3939534e5f_m.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" /></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm loving this bundle that I found in her summer selections, called <a href="http://stores.fabricseeds.com/-strse-320/Delighted%21-Fat-Quarter-Bundle/Detail.bok" target="_blank">Delighted! by The Quilted Fish</a>.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And Sarah has a great new promotion going on right now called Virtual Punch Card. For every $175 you spend, you receive an extra $10 towards your next purchase! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We've been chatting this past week and she's been telling me how she's going to Quilt Market this next week {lucky!}, and she's planning on bringing back lots of goodies to stock her shop up with. I can't wait to see!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, today Sarah has offered these two cuties for our giveaway today:</div>

I love a quilt that can be whipped up in a week.</div>

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I needed a quick project that I could make for a church auction tonight. It was a fundraiser for girls' camp this summer, and since I have two girls going this year, I thought I should do a quilt. </div>
<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
I made my Cherry Sundae quilt based on <a href="http://www.modabakeshop.com/2012/04/happy-weekender-quilt.html#more" target="_blank">this tutorial</a>. I sized it down a bit, so I'd be able to get it done in a week's time! </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I used two charm packs of Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille. </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I love these fabrics. So beautiful! I love that Bonnie and Camille have kept their colorway pretty consistent throughout their last three fabric lines.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It makes it easy to coordinate backing and binding, even though yardage for Vintage Modern isn't out yet!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The backing and binding are both from Bonnie and Camille's Ruby, which I love as well.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The quilting is of course, my loopy quilting pattern. I'm getting a little bored with it, and I'm sure everyone else is. But when I'm trying to get it done fast, it's a pattern that I don't have to think much about and works up really quick, especially when I make big loops.

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I started this last Friday and finished it up tonight. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I may have been able to finish up quicker if I hadn't been watching this while I was sewing:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTrvFDLUeaLHWUkle_j05y0wSBx0OyC6SXyhuAmth00UqzN_-CK_Q" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://encrypted-tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTrvFDLUeaLHWUkle_j05y0wSBx0OyC6SXyhuAmth00UqzN_-CK_Q" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's too addicting!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I just finished Season 1, and now I have to wait for Netflix to send my first disc of Season 2.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

I can't wait to see what happens with these guys,</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
and these guys!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Don't you just want to slap those two??</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway...I think my quilt did pretty good at the auction tonight...it sold for a price that was happily above my cost of the materials, so that made me feel good!
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope everyone has a good weekend! It's supposed to be cold and miserable here, which will give me some sewing time hopefully!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
And be sure to stop by on Monday, because I'm going to be having a</div>

<br />
I'm ready to quilt my <a href="http://brasierhouse.blogspot.com/2012/03/works-in-progress.html" target="_blank">10 Little Things Baby Quilt</a>...but first it needs to be taped down and pinned.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9vUfy_WN1j_7tWYiE0n4wFKTdSsyB95U1FjiIYmd8TH0V5sBC1SK1Pfo5YbGIWzed6nSmefrbWPLL0XCdjCnxMMxY3WqMjW6RfCDncsP34Ih4qeaamyBWChc70bU1BmfBWBZr5FFxF_44/s1600/PICT0007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9vUfy_WN1j_7tWYiE0n4wFKTdSsyB95U1FjiIYmd8TH0V5sBC1SK1Pfo5YbGIWzed6nSmefrbWPLL0XCdjCnxMMxY3WqMjW6RfCDncsP34Ih4qeaamyBWChc70bU1BmfBWBZr5FFxF_44/s640/PICT0007.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I don't know about anyone else, but seriously, taping my quilt to the floor and then crawling around on my knees and elbows to pin is not my favorite thing to do!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmKZdpqWQ082zXtAjQmSgf2xOSAZTxpNg4nZV6ePdUDwXXtVToh0DWJ6Y_yBUOOoGVIkPH-73yJztsIFVcS-2yXN8msUE2sxWxjQRcbgE8ktWRQUo5tH2fwDc9GSclRRc42ofkw2TJVo_4/s1600/PICT0002+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmKZdpqWQ082zXtAjQmSgf2xOSAZTxpNg4nZV6ePdUDwXXtVToh0DWJ6Y_yBUOOoGVIkPH-73yJztsIFVcS-2yXN8msUE2sxWxjQRcbgE8ktWRQUo5tH2fwDc9GSclRRc42ofkw2TJVo_4/s640/PICT0002+%25287%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But that's what needs to happen if I'm ever going to get anything finished.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At least, until I can convince my husband that me getting a longarm would be a good idea!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXWbgvAmShMiQurdr0MgIZAGoPL7ExOxZyYveaBDNXZU5dtxAwdo0ADXlaJm65LBelhCAP-R_dP61Bq5udx4xUgxs_uuZpFWtQONL4FEDmBtx2t-z6x6sNiEMJy6hNxPA52eEghIhmILxO/s1600/PICT0008+(8).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiXWbgvAmShMiQurdr0MgIZAGoPL7ExOxZyYveaBDNXZU5dtxAwdo0ADXlaJm65LBelhCAP-R_dP61Bq5udx4xUgxs_uuZpFWtQONL4FEDmBtx2t-z6x6sNiEMJy6hNxPA52eEghIhmILxO/s640/PICT0008+(8).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And my favorite part is the HUGE ball of sharp, open pins that I get to manhandle!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8oWOdrNWgZPSkFyrsx6pHsYa0ZjXuEcQQhWt-q9ZrR-NIbajbyNMbBm6P561zMzVk769IKa-eKMUhK1QYg1OmueQh2mS0Kc8zbwAD_5tMzUEJt3fqa4Vqs7u-ANR-MQ7WHwUSFIt1OKdf/s1600/PICT0009+(8).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8oWOdrNWgZPSkFyrsx6pHsYa0ZjXuEcQQhWt-q9ZrR-NIbajbyNMbBm6P561zMzVk769IKa-eKMUhK1QYg1OmueQh2mS0Kc8zbwAD_5tMzUEJt3fqa4Vqs7u-ANR-MQ7WHwUSFIt1OKdf/s640/PICT0009+(8).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I just hold that big mass of pins over my quilt and shake the loose ones off. My kids think this is really cool.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I haven't been able to find a better system to keep my pins more separated and easier to get to! I put them back in my little tin opened because it saves time while I'm quilting, and then again when I'm pinning them into a new quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg68HQnt6ObEd0p3IhAO-NTFCLHWesQhNybq9VkacmPzS2E9DrFkOnBw99WLwXztqzSh4JEFy0Le9ejCEe23SYgeteOjqcchFwoEAUdpEZJGhh_WgB_1mpVNOD5471ZhlBdX29rXxSoCwhn/s1600/PICT0010+%25287%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg68HQnt6ObEd0p3IhAO-NTFCLHWesQhNybq9VkacmPzS2E9DrFkOnBw99WLwXztqzSh4JEFy0Le9ejCEe23SYgeteOjqcchFwoEAUdpEZJGhh_WgB_1mpVNOD5471ZhlBdX29rXxSoCwhn/s640/PICT0010+%25287%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Or does it??</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Does anyone have a better method of storing and retrieving pins?</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7T9w84bMz5YwOq0m1X1D2aSdkO5IDVmMxiefHeb6aKN148hpvnv9s4LSFl6URqPWR6OOMqtAqTe9fNrz-inRxLffqV4nyTB-e1SyaqEiOiAsiGtNg_4p1k5uBFBMLicZ0fXBi5CfMSufn/s1600/PICT0016+(7).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7T9w84bMz5YwOq0m1X1D2aSdkO5IDVmMxiefHeb6aKN148hpvnv9s4LSFl6URqPWR6OOMqtAqTe9fNrz-inRxLffqV4nyTB-e1SyaqEiOiAsiGtNg_4p1k5uBFBMLicZ0fXBi5CfMSufn/s640/PICT0016+(7).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think maybe I got a little carried away with my pinning! There's lots of intersections with these HST's, and I don't want anything to move around!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm still trying to decide how to quilt this. Something circle-y? I'm leaning towards some straight-lines...but I can't decide if I want to follow the graduating diamonds outwards, or maybe something diagonal through the diamond rows. Any ideas?</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I had to take a picture under my favorite Rose Tree of China bush. I like the way the flower petals dusted over the top of the quilt.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
While we were there, we had some little visitors--the cutest little fat bumblebees were collecting pollen on it. Probably 5 or 6 of them. Yes, this picture is doctored up, but I love how the brighter colors accentuate the little bee. The colors on the bee are more true to life now, though. I love that little bright orange stripe on his back!</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Anyway, that little yellow hand on the right hand side of the quilt is so light that it's hard to see in the pictures. It's the smallest handprint on the quilt and so cute. It's sad that it's not quite as bright as the others. Something to remember for next time!

<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: center;">I've never made wonky blocks before, and so I didn't think about the fact that when I cut the blocks, it would be exposing the bias of the grey. Even though I was being careful with them, I couldn't figure out why some blocks were starting to get slightly stretched (as I was unpicking seams), until I realized that they were on the bias. Luckily, all went together well.</span>

I LOVE the binding and how it pops against the grey. I used it also around the red handprint.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I left the handprint blocks alone, and let them speak for themselves!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have to add a note here and say that this quilt was NOT my idea. My friend Rachelle wanted to make a quilt as a gift for her daughter's preschool teacher with all the kids' handprints on it. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I happened upon her at our LQS and she told me what she was thinking about. I offered to help her make it, since Rachelle doesn't sew.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We designed it and chose fabric together and then I pieced and quilted it. I'm honored that she trusted me to work on this special quilt that she is giving to someone that means a lot to her.<br />
<br />
I so enjoyed creating and finishing this little quilt. I know that there's a lucky preschool teacher out there that's going to be so surprised and happy with such a special, meaningful gift!
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And, on a final note,<br />
<br />
I'm going to be adding a tab on my blog soon called 'Commissioned Quilts' or something to that affect. I've done a few commissioned quilts and would like to start doing more, now that my little kids are starting to get older, and my second-to-youngest will be starting kindergarten in the fall. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'll be including this quilt as an example, although this quilt isn't a 'commission.' But I thought it could maybe count as one because I made it for someone else with specifications requested by them. (Does that make any sense?!) </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

It is three weeks away.<br />
<br />
My husband was sitting next to me on Saturday night as I was drooling and dreaming about all the fabric and other sewing-related items I want. *sigh*<br />
<br />
Suddenly, out of the blue, he asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day! What a happy coincidence. I luckily had windows open of the items that I've been dreaming of.<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My husband Doug is a wonderful, loving guy. He is willing to go out of his way to give me what I want, even though I'm sure he rolls his eyes about my sewing obsession most of the time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
With him in school right now, our cash flow is {slightly} restricted. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He gently informed me that I could go ahead and order the things that I showed him for my own Mother's Day gift, but that I would have to give up flowers and a card from him.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
He thinks he's got me there. I LOVE flowers. And I LOVE getting cards from him.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
But...I can sacrifice the flowers. And I'm hoping he'll give me a card anyway. :)</div>

I've been working on this quilt for the last couple of weeks with my friend Rachelle. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's a gift for her daughter's preschool teacher. She thought some little hand prints on the wall for her would be sweet.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I think she's right. They are SO sweet.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is my favorite block. Maybe it's the red. But probably it's the little person behind the hand!</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I am loving this little quilt so much! </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm going to be quilting this up today. I'm planning to quilt-in-the-ditch in each seam on the hand print blocks, and then do my loopy quilting in the grey areas.</div>
<br />

<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
All super-pinned and ready to go!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
And look what's been blooming in my front yard! It's my Rose Tree of China bush. It's my very favorite thing in our yard. Three years ago it was just three little twigs. Now it's humongous! </div>

This is my first you-make-something-for-your-partner-swap, so it's been exciting to learn how these things go. <br />

It's been so fun to see all the fabric choices and watch all the projects come to life on Flickr. Click the button above to go see what's been going on there!<br />

After getting the profile of my partner and doing some online stalking of her, I finally feel ready to unveil my fabric choices for her!<br />

<br />
I had so much fun choosing these fabrics! Part are from my LQS, and part from my own stash. I love how they look together and I'm really hoping that she'll love them too!<br />
<br />
As far as a project, I'm thinking either a mini quilt or a sewing machine cover for her, with a circle of flying geese or a New York Beauty Flying Geese block. What do you think?<br />
<br />
I love the idea of a swap. I don't usually make things for myself, but I love to make something for someone else. So in a swap, I get the best of both worlds! I have the excitement and joy of thinking of someone else and making something to surprise her with, but I am also going to get a fun surprise in return! I love it!<br />
<br />
So are you involved in any swaps right now? Which ones, and what do you love about a swap?<br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5148777202778877219.post-78015524580806345722012-04-20T10:41:00.000-06:002012-04-20T10:41:19.117-06:00A Dry SpellWow. I feel a bit sheepish. It's been two weeks since I've posted. <br />
<br />
My life has been exceptionally crazy! We had spring break two weeks ago, then my husband was home for spring break the week after. We had a birthday party for my son on Friday and then my family had to speak in church on Sunday. Ugh! <br />
<br />
This week it's been my turn to teach in our little Mommy & Me preschool group that my daughter Ari is in. And, I've just been playing catch-up for the rest of the week. I haven't had much time to sew or post on my blog at all. I appreciate everyone's patience with me!<br />
<br />
Thursday I had a ring at my doorbell and found this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgySxp9BUxhT0ZoIC70cNc3H9_H-Kq4vlP-9KsZNVMU_NTPM2QuoqeIWkS8h0bsfG9GBq-XZbP15BjwXB8lH2aG08ZmCi57NoKfQUzi9jfgJqvKcY3P_wYtLQ1mqwbvYnim4MdNQwZYAjUT/s1600/1-PICT0212.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgySxp9BUxhT0ZoIC70cNc3H9_H-Kq4vlP-9KsZNVMU_NTPM2QuoqeIWkS8h0bsfG9GBq-XZbP15BjwXB8lH2aG08ZmCi57NoKfQUzi9jfgJqvKcY3P_wYtLQ1mqwbvYnim4MdNQwZYAjUT/s640/1-PICT0212.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
with this little cutie tucked in:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX89s_exhcBynhhOHJ5Lut2hiNKvZ_5ARQVTjEOiq_AZSNOxxez9FeP4OG2CbZCR-BGId_uKr__enA5YXkADerPseqUJ4YnkOh0YtMic9LdS93DOVdnE6UAOXqcsX9BiMCaIPm80c7n4Hs/s1600/1-PICT0214.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhX89s_exhcBynhhOHJ5Lut2hiNKvZ_5ARQVTjEOiq_AZSNOxxez9FeP4OG2CbZCR-BGId_uKr__enA5YXkADerPseqUJ4YnkOh0YtMic9LdS93DOVdnE6UAOXqcsX9BiMCaIPm80c7n4Hs/s640/1-PICT0214.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I have been batting-less for a LONG time. I've just been waiting for a really good sale at Joanne's, and they had one last week, finally. I had a coupon for 20% off your entire order, so I got each of these king sized packages for about $24. I decided to stock up and get 5. I'm so excited to get to work!<br />
<br />
I'm thinking I can fit two lap-sized quilts, as well as 3 or 4 baby quilts onto one of these batts, which measure 120" X 124".<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8S4fUK4isEweEGr54GGGa1J7gQZNchgnDTJnHLWZO9BRzIeMgb9s_L7fEyn1dvyRBjkP3anEy6KKZSI4PJ-AcRX0II2rDOnTgGYG67bsAOblk-aJl90OHFffTDb7fpG0r4v6c6kUnzBkF/s1600/PICT0017+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8S4fUK4isEweEGr54GGGa1J7gQZNchgnDTJnHLWZO9BRzIeMgb9s_L7fEyn1dvyRBjkP3anEy6KKZSI4PJ-AcRX0II2rDOnTgGYG67bsAOblk-aJl90OHFffTDb7fpG0r4v6c6kUnzBkF/s640/PICT0017+(4).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I'm planning to start with these:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTjAC2hp021gkcmxyOn6S6kBQKz4acBd_N-83fdJimcGRdedGIMw1DqW7dRXG-gN_HfEZ4bUJ1pPRwOBMWwxUWXEIKDXUsHFXxpPrdvy-u8IcGBC3aftb1dor2w3PI2y3oleF_UjUH8bKG/s1600/PICT0014+(4).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjTjAC2hp021gkcmxyOn6S6kBQKz4acBd_N-83fdJimcGRdedGIMw1DqW7dRXG-gN_HfEZ4bUJ1pPRwOBMWwxUWXEIKDXUsHFXxpPrdvy-u8IcGBC3aftb1dor2w3PI2y3oleF_UjUH8bKG/s640/PICT0014+(4).JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The top one is my Strawberry Shortcake quilt. The bottom one is my Ten Little Things baby quilt. The two middle ones are older UFO's. <br />
<br />
I'm excited to get them all finished! And I'm excited to try out my new Hera Marker on a couple of them!<br />
<br />
Hope everyone has a great weekend!<br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5148777202778877219.post-74229304129404048462012-04-06T13:55:00.000-06:002012-04-29T22:32:35.289-06:00It's Finished!...Again!I finished it! My 7-year-old WIP that I've put away so many different times that I can't count them. I learned my lesson (see the previous post), and did it right.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn5KX6RkggObApR8FqGfSaPz71bfHyAJISYvF8k19TQO-xd6lzHrC8sgijtYkWOVqUjLtX_NrHXPRRKlNY9xU-jt0AWaemxpDgTh5HPNNQlBlhBTgFsTA-DESepuG7D_RiLNHJ0JF7zWgk/s1600/1-PICT0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="patriotic quilts, fourth of july quilts, children's delight quilt pattern" border="0" height="606" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjn5KX6RkggObApR8FqGfSaPz71bfHyAJISYvF8k19TQO-xd6lzHrC8sgijtYkWOVqUjLtX_NrHXPRRKlNY9xU-jt0AWaemxpDgTh5HPNNQlBlhBTgFsTA-DESepuG7D_RiLNHJ0JF7zWgk/s640/1-PICT0029.JPG" title="4th of July Quilt" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I did change the binding on it, since I had to take it off anyway. I like the blue binding much better. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I feel like it calms the quilt down just a little bit, and doesn't clash with the quilt.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga_ETS_WIgSHPBuo2E_a4o0eRfxBQJF8DhBsL2plCOm41xYIrw7732GYUikrtS73wsdfmlW1aU50TcZzD7Dp5gcPLdFGSceMxLdAFyPEYKJvL4R3Qq-NMV6oyjIojxAEFj-TO-cMCceqOk/s1600/1-PICT0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga_ETS_WIgSHPBuo2E_a4o0eRfxBQJF8DhBsL2plCOm41xYIrw7732GYUikrtS73wsdfmlW1aU50TcZzD7Dp5gcPLdFGSceMxLdAFyPEYKJvL4R3Qq-NMV6oyjIojxAEFj-TO-cMCceqOk/s640/1-PICT0005.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This red is the old binding. I think that it clashes with the other reds, and makes the quilt feel busier.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
What do you think?</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'll celebrate my finish and show some fun pictures with my little (and not so little) helpers.</div>

A close-up of the binding and some of the quilting. I didn't end up quilting the border at all. I put the binding on all by machine.</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
I was planning on taking it outside and taking some fun shots, but we woke up this morning to this:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
A couple of inches of snow on the last day of our Spring Break. Bummer! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixySGU-DcxSAgyuONnEI2tKd0k997ZYHQTVqxN0wo6dymOVqiKvtd-Sk-cVP4mfr9XU_WpIfhLLRoSfGh4vZQvcxddrgllOOHJbc3BWKPuBZRZWI9FqpAdjZf7e_T7BnvBiIVofa7iTKGz/s1600/1-PICT0029.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="606" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixySGU-DcxSAgyuONnEI2tKd0k997ZYHQTVqxN0wo6dymOVqiKvtd-Sk-cVP4mfr9XU_WpIfhLLRoSfGh4vZQvcxddrgllOOHJbc3BWKPuBZRZWI9FqpAdjZf7e_T7BnvBiIVofa7iTKGz/s640/1-PICT0029.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
We could only stand a couple of outside shots. Brrr! That's what happens in Spring in Idaho!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Even though I don't {LOVE} the quilt, we're still going to use it. It will be one of those quilts that I won't mind it being dragged and tossed around...even taken outside for a picnic or used to make a fort.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That is, if my husband doesn't steal it. He says he REALLY likes it, because it's so linear. He's an analytical-type of guy and needs everything laid out in straight lines. {Example: when we plant trees and bushes, he has to measure everything so it's perfectly spaced apart, from side to side and front to back--but don't tell him I told you that! :) }</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That's why everything I love he says, "meh--s'okay." And everything I don't especially like, he loves!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope everyone has a great Easter Weekend!</div>

</div>
<br />
It's sad, but true! Monday night, I had a completed project. Tuesday morning, it became a Work in Progress. Again. {sigh}<br />

<br />
I finished this quilt top SEVEN years ago. I didn't know what to do with it as far as quilting it, so I folded it up, and put it away.<br />
<br />
I've taken it out from time to time and done some work in stages on it. <br />
<br />
A couple of years ago, I quilted it, but when I came to the borders, I ran into a BIG problem. <br />
<br />
At the time I had pieced the top, I hadn't learned that you have to measure the quilt top in the center, cut the borders accordingly and then sew them on that way. Instead, I just cut the border big, sewed it up, and cut off the remaining fabric. <br />
<br />
*NOTE: DON'T EVER DO THAT!! IT CAUSES BIG PROBLEMS WHEN QUILTING--LIKE RIPPLES. THAT DON'T PLAY NICE WHEN YOU'RE QUILTING.<br />
<br />
I got about halfway up one side and I realized that this was happening...and that it wasn't going to be able to be quilted without the fabric folding over on itself and creating a big mess.<br />
<br />
Knowing I was going to have to tear out all the quilting I'd done on the border, and then remove the borders, I folded it up, and put it away again.<br />
<br />
So, about two months ago, I did unpick all the quilting in the borders, and pulled the borders off. And then I folded it up and put it away again.<br />
<br />
Monday, I decided I was going to finally, FINALLY, finish this quilt. So I measured the borders and re-sewed them on. Instead of doing it the right way, I sewed it on right through the batting and back...like a quilt-as-you-go method.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga_ETS_WIgSHPBuo2E_a4o0eRfxBQJF8DhBsL2plCOm41xYIrw7732GYUikrtS73wsdfmlW1aU50TcZzD7Dp5gcPLdFGSceMxLdAFyPEYKJvL4R3Qq-NMV6oyjIojxAEFj-TO-cMCceqOk/s1600/1-PICT0005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEga_ETS_WIgSHPBuo2E_a4o0eRfxBQJF8DhBsL2plCOm41xYIrw7732GYUikrtS73wsdfmlW1aU50TcZzD7Dp5gcPLdFGSceMxLdAFyPEYKJvL4R3Qq-NMV6oyjIojxAEFj-TO-cMCceqOk/s640/1-PICT0005.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Then, at the last minute, I decided to change my plans for the binding.<br />
<br />
But after I was finished, I decided I don't like the binding.<br />
<br />
In fact, I think I don't like the entire quilt. <br />
<br />
That's the reason that you don't let your WIP's get too old. Because then you ask yourself, "WHAT WAS I THINKING??!?!?!"<br />
<br />
But at this point, I decided it didn't matter, I'm done. I'm not doing another thing to this quilt. So I went to bed, and the next morning, I threw it in the washer, to see if I liked it any better after it was all soft and crinkly.<br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuw8fWqQYCHQDWmU9iLDa5QHT7UI98IjWKq4jUOoaV05Mxi0lbLldIyjhlCbk8ebjo4kzRHA4qg6YHZ_nf1YmBri1l435UQTbZ6ICorcehHV4Y8DGqKWFkJz-WWB9lPraE8J5An8LitB1C/s1600/DSC03216.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuw8fWqQYCHQDWmU9iLDa5QHT7UI98IjWKq4jUOoaV05Mxi0lbLldIyjhlCbk8ebjo4kzRHA4qg6YHZ_nf1YmBri1l435UQTbZ6ICorcehHV4Y8DGqKWFkJz-WWB9lPraE8J5An8LitB1C/s640/DSC03216.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I pulled it out of the dryer yesterday, and realized that my border had pulled out of my binding in places. Grrr! At one point in my contemplation of this situation, I actually thought about doing nothing and letting it go, until the fabric frayed so much that it would need to be thrown out.<br />
<br />
Of course the fabric had pulled out of the border. I was working carelessly, just wanting this quilt to be finished. <br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, there are some very important lessons I've learned in this situation:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghSzuVTfvXyjEHvRrUL3oPy4FqwhkObmOO-IqRR-9MAeLnSPzUfbAEQDLVYW6pElQfqQbYQhvIq0hznHYjcFJWnlqT0j8737XmgS-6_M5UOj7aRKbM8Mt-kamYdFmbB0GsdCg5FWSJ6Wp1/s1600/1-PICT0016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghSzuVTfvXyjEHvRrUL3oPy4FqwhkObmOO-IqRR-9MAeLnSPzUfbAEQDLVYW6pElQfqQbYQhvIq0hznHYjcFJWnlqT0j8737XmgS-6_M5UOj7aRKbM8Mt-kamYdFmbB0GsdCg5FWSJ6Wp1/s640/1-PICT0016.JPG" width="620" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<ul>
<li>I can't walk away from problems with my projects. There's a difference between giving yourself some time to contemplate and regroup, and ignoring the problem. I should have tackled it and finished the quilt seven years ago regardless of the problems.</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>I'm a quilter; and therefore, each quilt that I make deserves the same dedication and care as any other. Why would I just become sloppy and careless for a quilt that my family is going to use? I need to spend the time to get it right, because I started it and it needs to be finished. Even if I don't love it anymore.</li>
</ul>
<div>
<ul>
<li>I was NOT going to blog about this quilt. I don't want to admit to everyone that I've been lazy, careless, etc. But this blog is about my quilting, the good and the bad! Even the best quilters make mistakes....that's how we learn. I'm determined to learn from this! I'm a quilter, for all the good things that I create, and all the not-so-good. {It was my husband who said that to me.}</li>
</ul>
<div>
So, there you have it. A very long story that's probably very revealing of who I am. {gulp!}</div>
